Brothers

When I was pregnant Taylor was very excited, but when I found out the baby would be a boy he was SOOO excited. Of course with the almost 20 year age gap he was always doing the math and making jokes about how old John and I  would be when Z did this or that.  He joked that he would probably have to raise him since we would be too old to do it. But he could not wait to meet his brother.  He plotted and planned all the things they would do together, all the things that he could teach him.  They will have a lifetime of special adventures!

On the day Z was born we went to the doctor.  John told me he was going to text Taylor and tell him it was time, just to mess with him....a few minutes later he texted him and told him he was serious that he needed to get to the hospital. Taylor went home and changed because he wanted to have on a nice shirt when he met his brother.  He anxiously waited on the other sir of the OR door to hear the first cries.  It was love at first sight and has grown stronger  ever since.

They have a really special bond.   Z adores him.  We miss him so much.  For the next two weeks we have him here....we will hear a lot of "brother playroom", "brother play ball", brother read book".  Fortunately Taylor is more than willing to do all of these activities on demand.

  4. Oh how wonderful. I too have a big age gap between my boys, 22 years. I do have 3 girls in between though. My eldest boy is autistic and has difficulty with babies but I can see him bonding with his brother now that he is five and it's lovely when they play together (because you are never too old for some games!)

    1. It is a big age gap for sure....but luckily the older boys do adore him, most of the time. And you're right you are never too old for some games, It's funny when they sit down to play with him and some of the toys they had as littles.

  5. I love seeing families with big age gaps! I was 14 when my little sister was born, and some people find that a little bit weird. It can be a little awkward, because I have been mistaken for her parent (I'm sure this has happened to your son, too), but I wouldn't change anything!

    1. Just last week Taylor and his girlfriend were visiting and I know they were mistaken for Z's parents. I'm ok with that!

  7. Wonderful. And beautiful photos. How nice to see such brotherly love. My boys have a 7 year gap and most times, my eldest is happy to help my youngest. But because he's only 14 he does tend to get annoyed a lot too by his little bro. Great to discover your blog! #MyExpatFamily

  8. Even though Taylor is mostly a grown up he does from time to time get annoyed, but mostly with the attention Zane gets!
